Scratch Assignment

Reflection Questions:

1. What was surprising about the activity?
After completing the activity, I found it surprising that you only need to click a few buttons too make your own scratch project. Also, I was surprised how quick it was to complete the project once I understood it.
2. How Did it feel to be led step-by-step throughout the activity?
I think that it was extremely helpful, since I have never used the Scratch Programming before. I like how it tells you exactly what you need to do, so I didn't have many questions.
3.As a learner, when do you like having more structure?
I like having more structure as I am trying to figure out how to navigate the program and become more comfortable with it.
4. When do you like having more freedom?
I like having freedom when it comes to designing or being more creative. Also, I like more freedom at the end of the unit when I already know how to do certain things.
5. When do you feel most creative?
I feel most creative when I have more freedom, rather than structure. Also, i feel most creative when it comes to designing something of my own, such as a webpage.

Over view on Webpage Design

3 problems
  • One of the biggest problems I had was inserting the images. Almost every image I tried to add to add to my webpage did not work. I checked to see if there were any errors in code, however, there didn't seem to be. Then, I used the HTML tutorial to try and see if the images would appear in another software. The images did show up on the HTML tutorial, but they failed to show in the actual notepad webpage. I found this frustrating because I think that the images would really complete the webpage.
  • I also had trouble with the background color of my webpage. I put in the code for red, however, the web page ended up being blue. I don't understand why this happened, but it wasn't a huge deal.
  • Lastly, I had trouble with the links. Some of links wouldn't open when I clinked on them. I checked to see if my link was wrong or if the code was wrong but it all seemed right. I am still confused as to why it didn't work.
2 successes
  • Last year I took an elective that was solely based on writing HTML. We did a project similar to this where we created a travel website with partners. Therefore, I was already familiar with a lot of the code. So, the writing on the actual webpage was somewhat easy for me.
  • I found it really easy to write about my topic. Dance is what I love to do and helps me to relieve stress. It was easy for me to find a topic and write thoroughly about.

Favorite Part
  • My favorite part was being able to actually create a webpage using code. I think that it is cool that a person can simply use a few tags to create something as big as a website.

What is Dance?

Dance can be defined as a series of movements that match a piece of music. Although dance seems as an easy activity, It is far from easy. Dance requires strenghth, flexibility, and musicality. Along with these important factors, dance requires endless hours of practice in order to perfect a specific step of movement. Ballet is the most important style of dance, as it is required for all the other styles of dance. This includes, Lyrical, Contemporary, Tap, Pointe, and even hip-hop. In order to learn more about these specific styles of dance...see below.

My Background:Dance

Since I was about 3 years old, I have always loved Dance. The first studio that I danced at was known as Susan Woods, which was located in Reading. However, now it has moved. Anyways, at Susan Woods I did Ballet and Tap for a few years. When I was a bit older, I decided to move to J and D Dance Academy. Today, I am fifteen years old and I still dance at J and D Dance Academy. Although I have tried many other sports, including soccer, Dance has always been the constant sport in my life. I especially love dance because I can be with my friends and it takes my mind off homework. At J and D, I take Ballet, Contemporary, and Jazz. Along with these required classes, I am also a part of the performance group.

Ballet

Ballet is a style of dance that originated many years ago during the 15th century. Ballet is the foundation of dance and requires beautiful technique and perfect posture. The Ballet barre is used for dancers during warmup activites, where teachers usually give combinations. Ballet also requires many years of training in order to master the given steps and moves. Most importantly, flexibilty is a key aspect of ballet.

Lyrical

Lyrical and Contemporary styles of dance is a style that combines both ballet and Jazz techniques. Lyrical is usally a bit smoother and a bit faster than ballet but slower than jazz. Lyrical consists of movements that are used to express feelings such as love or anger. Lyrical also is more free flowing compared to other styles, and requires more body movement.

Tap

Unlike Ballet or Tap, Tap is solely about the movement of feet and tap shoes. Tap is a series of movement, either hard or easy, that can be done slowly or more fast paced. Although this may seem easy, it is far from easy. Tap requires endless hours of practice in order to perfect certain sounds and movements. Each tap must be clear and concise or else the sound wont be right. Look below to find examples of tap sounds and moves....

Jazz

Jazz is a series of movements such as high kicks and faster movements compared to lyrical or ballet. Usually, Jazz dance is performed to more upbeat music and showcases a dancers flexibilty as well as performance quality. Look below for some jazz moves...

Different Types of Music

A variety of music styles

Whether you listen to music on the radio or on your iPod, it is safe to say that there are many music artists and types of music. Music artists rage from young and old, and some are better than others.

What type of music do I like?

I love to listen to music, especially when I am studying (because it helps me to focus better) or just in general. However, I do not have just one favorite genre of music. I mostly enjoy artists such as Ed Sheeran, Lana Del Rey, and bands such as the Imagine Dragons. Although these are some of my favorite artists, I do enjoy other genre's of music, such as country. I am not a huge country fan, but I definitely don't hate it. I like listening to Hunter Hayes, who is a young country artist.
